People seem to be more aware of how they are feeling. They label their feelings as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ but feelings are neutral and are part of being human. It frequently appears as though our feelings are coming from something outside us; from our bank balance, partner, children, job or boss.
Some feelings can seem really strong; ones we wish would go away. The stronger the feeling, the more we feel it is telling us about something true and the more it appears we need to act to change something. We begin to try to ‘fix’ our circumstances, or think… Continue reading
There is a new chapter on the horizon. Parents up and down the country may be sighing with relief that the children will be back to school. Indeed I saw a few posts on social media about half way through the holidays about how their children were behaving. Don’t get me wrong, I prefer to see those than the ones that make out life is idyllic 24/7! Some 55% of 1,000 mums surveyed by self-development and meditation app Anamaya said that their stress levels go up over the holidays.
An article in a… Continue reading
With the result from the referendum I felt insecure, like someone had pulled a rug out from under my feet. My mind became busy with thoughts about the economy crashing (and indeed the stock market did temporarily). My husband and I discussed for some time the possible awful consequences of the result. Then I fell awake again. It was all made-up.
We don’t know what will happen in the future. It is impossible. It is made-up by our thoughts taking form in the moment. We decided that whatever happened we would be OK… Continue reading
I have spent many years adding to my life; making my life harder, trying to find solutions to ‘problems’ I perceived I had. I’m not saying they weren’t there but at the time I didn’t realise where my experience was coming from. I have invested in so many self-help books over the years, moving towards self-development (so that I wasn’t completely broken but ‘could be better’). It has always been an interest of mine.
The thing I have come to discover is that all I have been doing by practicing the latest tool or technique is actually… Continue reading
“Thought creates the world and then says I didn’t do it.”
I hadn’t even heard of this quote until 5 months ago but I love it! It is a quote by David Bohm, one of the most influential physicists of the 20th century and a front runner in the field of quantum physics. I realised how true it is when I reflected on my resigning from a post a while back. I was working my notice and was feeling quite disgruntled as I felt I had moved on in my head and then realised it was down to… Continue reading
Reality shows are everywhere nowadays. Take your pick. There are a few I will have to admit that I watch. Generally, I find them entertaining to watch when there is no one else around and I am overthinking (once I have woken up in the night). They help me to distract myself from my thoughts. Once I have watched a programme, I can go to sleep and the noisy thinking has generally stopped.
The other night I was watching a certain American reality show based on a group of housewives. Suddenly, right before my… Continue reading
You are enough. You have everything you need inside you.
The human condition is to search for happiness. From the beginning of time people have told stories and handed them down through the ages. Native American folklore shares great insights into the human condition.
An Old Sioux Legend describes how the Creator wanted to hide something from the humans until they were ready to see it. He asked all the creatures of creation for their advice. The eagle suggested taking it and hiding it on the highest mountain in the land. But the Creator… Continue reading

I am learning to go with the flow! I have a confession to make: I was a real control freak. I say ‘real’ control freak because I didn’t realise I was one. I did things with the best of intentions. I felt that I should be able to make sure everyone was happy and OK. I had unreal expectations of myself and situations and became frustrated if I couldn’t make things ‘right’. These irrational thoughts and perfectionist expectations led to high stress levels. But now I’m free and am stepping into stillness. So what have I stopped doing and… Continue reading
